We are pleased to invite you to the Where Land Meets Sea spiritual retreat on the beautiful West Coast of Sweden. Welcome to listen to inspiring talks, take part in communal prayers and meditative gatherings and enjoy the company of spiritual teachers and fellow seekers, all while immersing yourself in a rejuvenating spiritual and natural environment.

The overall theme of the retreat is The Journey Together and Alone — an invitation to explore the necessity of spiritual companionship, as we balance walking the path alone before God. Held by the Company of Seekers, we are guided by the Silence of the Beloved — something we hope to cultivate together over these four days.

As always, the retreat is open to all – brothers and sisters, young and old, new seekers and seasoned travellers on the spiritual path, irrespective of what formal school or tariqa you belong to, if any. All sincere seekers from any religion or tradition are most welcome. We seek to meet in a spirit of openness, compassion, courtesy and understanding. Our hope, God willing, is for this to be a time in which our relative, transient and limited self (nafs) aligns itself harmoniously with the absolute and unbounded soul (ruh).

Programme

The retreat will begin in the evening Thursday 24 September and continue until mid-day Sunday 27 September. We are honoured and grateful to welcome Dr. Muna Haeri Bilgrami (South Africa/Malaysia), Haji Mustafa David Sterling (USA/Malaysia), Imam Nusrah Cassiem (South Africa), and Shaykh Mohammad Muslim Eneborg (Sweden/UK) as our main speakers.

We also welcome Sister Therese Palm Amiri (Sweden), who will organise and facilitate circles on Friday and Saturday afternoon exclusively for the women attending, focusing on Reconnecting with the Innate Intelligence from the Divine. Moreover, Pavel Siddique (India/Sweden) will guide us in 30 minutes of releasing physical movements on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Throughout the retreat, talks and a workshop will be held. In between these sessions, there will be time for communal and individual prayer and meditation, contemplative walks by the sea and opportunities to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. We will start each day with a silent meditation session (dhikr) and in the evenings we gather for a vocal dhikr. More on our speakers and programme can be found here.

Fees and venue

The fee for the retreat (not including accommodation) is 700 SEK for adults and 250 SEK for children above four years of age. Younger children are welcome free of charge. The participation fee includes lectures, workshop and meals. Breakfast is served daily, as well as a warm meal for lunch and soup in the evenings. On Sunday we will offer brunch. All food served will be vegetarian. There will also be a 24/7 self-service buffet with snacks, sandwiches, fruit, tea/coffee, and more.

The retreat will take place at Steningegården between Halmstad and Falkenberg on the West Coast of Sweden. A limited number of beds are available at the venue and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. The cost for accommodation varies between 300–600 SEK/night depending on room size. More information about Steningegården and housing options can be found here.

If you are not able to pay the full fee for the retreat, please specify this when you register and we will try our best to find a solution. We try our best to keep the costs and fees for the retreat as low as possible. Please consider a donation to our organisation to make our activities available to as many as possible.

The retreat is something we run together. In a spirit of service — khidma, as it is known in our tradition — we each lend a hand with the practical rhythms of our days: preparing and sharing food, tidying our spaces, welcoming one another. This keeps the retreat affordable for all and deepens the bonds of community that are at the heart of these days.

We look forward to seeing you at the retreat! You are all most welcome!

With peace, light and joy,
Det yttersta trädet / Sidratul Muntaha
